It has come to our attention, thanks to a customer, that the instructions supplied by Sig Sauer for the P238 Trigger Guard Laser (238-TGL) could be incorrect. Some models have shipped with instructions that will advise you to install the battery incorrectly. The instructions have been revised but many shipped with the incorrect ones.
If you are having problems with your 238-TGL laser where it is not turning on and the battery is getting very hot, it is entirely possible that you followed the instructions leading to improper battery installation.
The first illustration (click to enlarge) below shows the incorrect installation method which will likely cause the battery to discharge very quickly and heat up or potentially overheat.
The following illustrations shows the correct way to install the battery:
Note that the illustrations both show the battery in the correct position but the polarities are incorrect on the first illustration.
Below are two photos showing the inside of the laser with the battery installed correctly and the indicators inside the laser which show the correct method of installation.
Many people might not use the instructions and will end up installing the battery correctly, just as I did the first time I set one up but there are many others out there that prefer to follow the instructions. If you’d like to download a copy of the instruction manual without the problem, you can do so by clicking: 238-TGL Corrected Installation Manual.
Have you had any problems with your 238-TGL? If so, feel free to post a comment. We want to do our best to inform our subscribers.

Update 7-8-10 – We have the P226 Tactical Operations (Tac Ops) available in 9mm.
Update 3-31-10 – We just receive a partial shipment of our outstanding order on the P226 Blackwater Tactical models. We’ve got them back in stock and you can buy them today on our site.
We recently received word that Sig Sauer will no longer produce the P226 Blackwater Tactical. The reason relates to licensing with Blackwater but they have replaced it with a new model called the P226 Tactical Operations. The only real difference between this and the P226 Blackwater Tactical is the branding.
Sig Sauer will be filling our outstanding order on the P226 Blackwater Tactical models and we’ll post an update on the site when we see the final shipment of them. We’ll also be stocking the Tact Ops model soon.
Here is Sig’s description of the Tactical Operations model:
The SIG SAUER® P226® Tactical Operations is a full-sized 9mm or .40S&W featuring a stainless steel slide with rugged, wear-resistant Nitron® finish, front cocking serrations and SIGLITE® rear night sight, a TRUGLO® Tritium Fiber Optic front sight and features the Short Reset Trigger or SRT. SIG engineers designed the SRT to provide you the same great safety and smooth action of the SIG DA/SA with a comfortable reset that is 60% shorter for faster trigger return and surgical control during high speed shooting. The beavertail frame is black hard anodized light weight alloy with integral Picatinny rail and polymer Magwell grips. The pistol comes with four (4) 20 round super capacity magazines so it’s ready to see action. The SIG SAUER P226 tactical Operations pistol is backed by SIG SAUER with a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
