We just received a phone call from our contact at Sig and Sig Sauer is producing a SIG 556 chambered in 7.62×39. This new SIG556 will have a AK-47 bolt and it will support standard AK-47 magazines. Apparently these new models are in production and will be shipping from the factory in roughly four to six weeks. The SIG556 is modeled after the Swiss style 550/551 and one can expect the new model to be much like the existing models (with the exception of the bolt and probably the receiver). This model will have a 16″ barrel.
At this point, we have no photos or other information. I am not sure if the SIG556 7.62×39 will have a rail or if it will be configured like the classic model. I would expect more people would want a rail. SRP is not published yet but estimated at $1500 – $1700.
As soon as we have more information or photos, we will publish that info here.
What are your thoughts on this new model? We’d love the input… I would expect this to be pretty popular since 7.62×39 ammo is readily available and reasonably priced.
Update: this is NOT an AR style rifle – it is modeled after the Swiss style 550/551. I misunderstood the initial report of the rifle. The model number is R556-762R-16B.
Update 11-8-10 – Steve over at thefirearmblog.com just posted an update with some great info about the bolt and what the new Sig might look like. The photo below is from that blog post. On a similar but slightly separate note, thefirearmblog.com is an excellent source of firearm related information. If you’re a firearm junkie, bookmark that site or subscribe to their RSS feed. Steve publishes information daily there!
Update 6-3-11 – The SIG556 Russian is now available. We’ve got photos below and you can see this model in our store. We’re currently selling this model for $1099 plus shipping and handling.
New products have been rolling in pretty quickly this week. Today we have added another P238 to our store and site and that model is the Sig Sauer P238 SAS. With the exception of the P238 Equinox, we have every P238 currently offered in stock.
The Sig P238 SAS has been dehorned which results in a very smooth and snag free profile making the SAS great for concealed carry. The P238 SAS has rosewood grips, SIGLite night sights, a natural stainless slide, and a black hard anodized frame.
Another new addition to our site and store is the Sig Sauer P226 USPSA. This is a model that is probably easily overlooked because of its price and features but it does come across as quite a nice package. The P226 USPSA (US Practical Shooting Association) has a Warren Tactical rear sight and a Dawson fiber optic front sight, a beavertail, SRT (short reset trigger), front strap checkering on the frame, and engraving on the slide. This model is only available in 9mm. A portion of the sales proceeds are to be used in promoting USPSA activities through educational and shooting sports programs.
See the P226 USPSA specs along with pricing and ordering information in our store.
We have a new addition to the store – a model that we have never carried before. That model is the Sig Sauer P229 USTB (threaded barrel with night sights and SRT). The only other P229 available with a threaded barrel is the P229 Dark Elite TB.
We have a new addition to our online store – the Sig Sauer 556 Classic rifle with green furniture.
We are packaging the 556 rifle with the STS-081 mini red dot sight and selling them together for $1,249. See photos below of the green Sig 556 and head over to our store and see the model with specs and ordering information.

The 1911 Tactical Operations has some of the features that many 1911 owners seek: accessory rail, front strap checkering, Novak night sights, ambidextrous safety, extended magazine well (integrated into the main spring housing), Ergo XT grips, and Sig Sauer quality.
