Product Changes for 2011
We know about a few changes to the Sig Sauer 2011 line that we want to share.
P220 line – From what we’re seeing, the P220 models will be gaining the new enhanced ergonomic grips. These grips will replace the standard grips – it will not be a separate model. The Elite models with wood grips will lose the wood grips for the enhanced ergonomic grips.
P226 line – same as the P220 – standard models will be shipped with the enhanced ergonomic grips and the Elite models will ship with the ergonomic grips instead of wood. I’m quite sure that other models with wood grips (like the Equinox) will keep the wood.
P229 line – same as P220 and P226……
Also…. the models with a designation of E2 will be dropped since the standard models will have the enhanced ergonomic grips. The E2 models that were shipped in 2010 had the short reset trigger and 3 magazines. The standard models shipping in 2011 will have 2 magazines and the standard trigger like the current standard models in 2010.
Discontinued Models
A number of models have been dropped from the line. The following will be discontinued at the end of 2010:
- 19GS0014 – 1911 Compact Stainless
- 19GS0015 – 1911 Compact (Nitron)
- 220BR-22-BAS-SAO – P220 in .22LR with beavertail and single action only trigger
- 232-380-BSS-DAO-G – P232 in Nitron with night sights and a double action only trigger (also includes 3 magazines)
- 232-380-T – P232 in two tone with standard sights
- 239-40-TSS-DAK – P239 in two tone with night sights and a double action only trigger
- E26R-9-USPSA – P226 US Practical Shooting Association
- All models ending in -G appear to be dropped. The -G indicates that 3 magazines are included instead of 2. The standard 2 mag versions of all these models should still be offered.
Known 2011 Models (all to be displayed at SHOT)
- Sig 716 Rifle – 7.62×51mm (.308 Win) rifle
- Sig P290 Pistol – Sub compact polymer frame 9mm pistol with a single stack magazine
- Sig 7.62×39 Rifle – new Swiss 550/551 style rifle chambered in 7.62×39
If you have any information about the changes taking place in 2011, feel free to post a comment!

It is a shame that the 1911 compact steel frame models are being discontinued.
I think they did not get marketed very well along with well documented barrel problems on the earlier models. I am happy to have got one before they are gone and hope my frame will last my lifetime.
