Sig has finally started shipping the new P238 Extreme model (238-380-XTM-BLKGRY) and we received a few in a shipment. The Extreme model has G10 grips, night sights, and comes with one extended length 7rd magazine and one standard 6rd magazine.

We’ve got a new P238 combo in stock – a black P238 with contrast sights and a 238-TGL trigger guard laser. The combo will sell for $569 which is a very competitive price for the package.
Below are photos of the P238 TGL combo and you can see specs and order this model in our store. You can also upgrade the 238-TGL laser to a Crimson Trace LG-492 for an additional $70. Orders must be placed by phone for this upgrade but the LG-492 is eligible for a $50 mail in rebate – the rebate runs from April 2, 2011 to June 30, 2011!
Back in December we noted that Crimson Trace was releasing a trigger guard mounted laser for the P238. They started shipping those lasers last week and we now have them in stock.
Crimson Trace’s LG-492 laser mounts around the trigger guard, much like Sig’s laser, except it is activated with pressure from your third finger in the front of the grip. The Sig Sauer 238-TGL must be activated from either side with a button.
The LG-492 looks and operates nearly the same as the model for Ruger’s LCP. There is no on/off switch with this model. The laser can be adjusted for both windage and elevation.

We had an inquiry today about the legality and availability of P238 pistols in Massachusetts. A customer was looking for a specific model, the P238 HD and said local dealers in Massachusetts did not stock them. He wondered if they were legal in his state. I really wasn’t sure since we very rarely ship firearms to his home state but I called our Sig Sauer rep and asked for info.
Here is the run down….
Massachusetts, like California, has an approved handgun list. They have specific requirements on features the pistols must have to be approved. One feature is a serial number on both the slide and frame. To my knowledge, this is the only state that has this particular requirement. In addition to the serial number, there is some sort of approval process. I’m not totally familiar with this process.
Currently, there are five P238 models that are legal in Massachusetts…. They are the Blackwood grip model, Equinox, Rainbow Titanium, Rosewood grip model, and TL (tactical laser model). The model number will have an M in it to indicate Massachusetts. For example, the Equinox part number would be 238-380-EQM or 238-380-EQ-M. I’m not sure if there is a dash in there or not.
Since MA is the only state to have the serial number requirement, dealers in other states likely will not have the MA compliant models. We do not stock them since it is a separate SKU and likely more expensive than the regular models for the other states.
If you are a Massachusetts resident shopping for a P238, I can only recommend checking around locally. If you are looking for P238 accessories, you can buy them from us or other online retailers.

I spoke with Crimson Trace today and they are anticipating the new P238 Crimson Trace laser grips will be ready to start shipping on February 15th. We’ll be placing an order for them next week and we will stock them as soon as possible. The P238 Crimson Trace will probably be one of the biggest selling accessories next to the 7rd extended X-Grip magazines.

The Sig Sauer 238-TGL (trigger guard laser) has been very popular since the P238 makes such a great concealed carry handgun.We just received information that Crimson Trace has a P238 laser coming early next year.
The model number is LG-492 and it will also fit over the trigger guard much like the 238-TGL.
The LG-492 has one primary benefit over the Sig laser – it is activated by squeezing the grip with your third finger (the laser looks a lot like the LCP laser). With the popularity of the Sig 238-TGL, I’m sure the 238 Crimson Trace will be even more popular.
The MSRP on this laser is $209 and we expect shipping to start early next year.
New products have been rolling in pretty quickly this week. Today we have added another P238 to our store and site and that model is the Sig Sauer P238 SAS. With the exception of the P238 Equinox, we have every P238 currently offered in stock.
The Sig P238 SAS has been dehorned which results in a very smooth and snag free profile making the SAS great for concealed carry. The P238 SAS has rosewood grips, SIGLite night sights, a natural stainless slide, and a black hard anodized frame.
